Our Journey

Fall 2010 – Vision Day Together we created a plan of action to develop a Leadership culture at our school where all students and staff would discover leadership qualities within themselves and use those talents to be more effective in our daily lives. Teachers and staff were eager to begin implementation immediately.

Summer 2011 – 7 Habits Training 80 staff members attended a 3-day training in the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

Summer 2011 – 7 Habits Trainer Certification 9 staff members participated in a 2-day trainer training in order to become certified trainers for new staff in the future.

Fall 2011 – Implementation Day All stakeholders met to draft a three year implementation plan, establish classroom missions, develop a school motto and participate in a year long book study of Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and The Leader in Me. Teachers also began to teach the language of the habits to the students in every grade level, share the initiative with the community, use literature to reinforce the leadership theme, develop leadership opportunities for all students, use student leadership notebooks, create a leadership song and post pictures of students filling leadership roles. The lighthouse team and school staff began to offer 7 habits training to others in the community and new staff members, use 7 habits student planners, share character integrated lesson plans, embed the 7 habits in the curriculum, and developed a student ambassador program.

Spring 2012 – 1st Leadership Day Winter 2013 – Lighthouse II – Schoolwide Goals Create WIGS and timeline to reach Lighthouse status

Winter 2013 – Empowerment Day Ensure sustainability, collect evidence for completion, offer an empowerment training for all staff, enhance the appearance of our school, establish sharpen the saw social activities to continue to motivate staff and offer community service opportunities for students of all ages.

Winter 2013 – Lighthouse Team attended Florida LIM Symposium

Spring 2013 – 2nd Leadership Day

Winter 2014 – 3rd Leadership Day and Earned Lighthouse Status!
